With the advent of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and configuration management, ITAM programs must not only master, but also look beyond the tactical activity of inventory management and toward providing IT organizations with the information that they need to be the most effective and efficient. There is a gaping hole in most IT organizations around understanding the flow of finances within and outside of IT that must be mastered to realize the full potential business value of IT. ITAM programs are uniquely positioned to provide this function and must begin building the program out to accommodate these needs. |
