Brian Prentice is a research vice president with Gartner's Emerging Trends and Technologies Group. His two primary areas of research are the future of property and ownership and its effect on the IT industry and the trend toward design displacing engineering as the central focus of IT product development. In addition, Mr. Prentice is actively involved in Gartner's research efforts in the areas of open-source software, social software and service-based delivery models (such as cloud computing, software as a service and platforms as a service).
