Assistant Secretary Information Architecture & Management

 John Sheridan joined the Australian Public Service in 1999 after 22 years in the Australian Regular Army. An infantry officer, his regimental experience was with the 5th/7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Mechanised) in which he served in a range of appointments from platoon to company command. His staff experience was mainly in the field of infantry personnel management.
On leaving the Army, John was appointed the Director Capability Management in the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. In late 2000, he became the Senior Executive Assistant to the Cheif Defence Scientist.
John began acting as the Assistant Secretary Information Achitecture & Management in the Office of the Chief Information Officer in September 2002 and was confirmed in this position on 30th January, 2003.
He is a graduate of the officer Cadet School Portsea and the Army Command and Staff College. He has a BA(Hons) degree and a Graduate Diploma of Computing Studies from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma in Management Studies, and a Master of Defence Studies degree from the University of New South Wales.
John and his wife Heather, a nurse unit manager at the Canberra Area Medical Unit, have three sons: the eldest, John, attends high school and the younger two, Scott and David, are at primary school.
