The growth of electronic business, and virtual and social networks, has put pressure on network sponsors and providers to keep surreptitious and "illegitimate" individuals out. This is often difficult because these individuals are not readily identified and the networks typically pride themselves on open, dynamic and fast-moving communications and transactions. Meanwhile, the promise of federated identity networks has yet to materialize. This panel will delve into the security and privacy issues that key network providers face in vetting identities, and will delve into the following issues:
Key Issues:
  • How do you know who you are dealing with in fast-moving frictionless networks? What mechanisms are available for identity vetting?
  • Why haven’t federated identity networks in the consumer world materialized? Is there a viable business model for making them work?
  • What constraints are imposed on your business and your clients because of identity uncertainty?
