Hacking, theft, sabotage. If you're like most professionals involved in information, network, or facility safety, they're on your mind a lot. Every year, organizations - including corporations, government agencies, and financial, research, and academic institutions - suffer billions of dollars of losses due to identity theft, unauthorized facilities access, and hacking into computer networks.

Tuesday, November 13, 2007 04:00 PM - Identity and access management are processes. IAM technologies automate these processes and can improve operational efficiency. Technology purchases that overlay broken or disjointed processes will fail to achieve the desired results. Enterprises must understand, and then use, these core IAM processes to analyze the enterprise processes, relative to a desired future state. (1 hr)

Advancing Your Fraud Prevention Tactics: A Unique Look Into Identity Theft and Financial Crimes

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 09:30 AM - Understanding financial crime is not as simple as it used to be. Sophisticated international and US-born criminal activity has caused dramatic changes in the way consumers and businesses perceive risks and sustain losses. Many in the business community know little about the mechanics of crime and the relationship between hardcore identity theft and corporate responsibility. Failure to see this often makes remedial change inappropriate or weak.

Identity theft, privacy issues, financial losses and data protection are everyday media topics. Now, because of legislative intervention, we are all influenced by costly and restrictive mandates regulating not just how financial data is collected, but also how it is used, stored and, ultimately, destroyed.

These new laws have forced businesses to close loopholes in order to protect consumer privacy, while at the same time mitigating corporate liability. This places more focus on the demand for corporate diligence.

Robert Rebhan will share his insight into the world of financial crimes, offering provocative commentary on society’s failures and placing a spotlight on the unusual suspects. He will also inspire the audience to return to the workplace with a refreshed attitude toward being more diligent in avoiding fraud. (1 hr)

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 10:45 AM - Identity and access management is fundamentally changing. Most enterprises are unaware of how these changes will affect their organization's IAM process, projects and purchasing decisions. This presentation will explore how IAM is being redefined and how these changes will affect an enterprise, as well as how the IAM infrastructure must change to support the changing technology and business landscape.
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 10:45 AM - Organizations continue to face the challenges of managing passwords in increasingly complex environments. Different solutions to these challenges offer different balances of robustness, convenience and affordability. As organizations migrate away from simple passwords, they face the challenges of managing stronger authentication methods, sometimes a portfolio of multiple methods for different constituencies, and integrating these methods into heterogeneous environments.
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 01:45 PM - With the near maniacal fervor of regulatory compliance -- a BIG stick, granted -- for identity management over the last 24 months, we seem to have lost sight of the other business drivers and benefits that an IAM solution can bring to the organization. And because an IAM solution has so many moving parts technically, information security and IT professionals tend to get lost in the technology -- a losing proposition. In this panel session, Gartner taps into the consulting and systems integrator world -- those professionals that tend to be involved in large-scale IAM projects across many industries -- to look at how organizations can make the business value case of an IAM solution. The key issues to be discussed are: (1 hr)

Thursday, November 15, 2007 08:00 AM - The growth of electronic business, and virtual and social networks, has put pressure on network sponsors and providers to keep surreptitious and "illegitimate" individuals out. This is often difficult because these individuals are not readily identified and the networks typically pride themselves on open, dynamic and fast-moving communications and transactions. Meanwhile, the promise of federated identity networks has yet to materialize. This panel will delve into the security and privacy issues that key network providers face in vetting identities, and will delve into the following issues: (1 hr)

Thursday, November 15, 2007 09:15 AM - Identity management’s most important role -- as an application infrastructure -- remains unfulfilled. Many IAM projects have focused on improving security efficiency and effectiveness through UP and related technologies across previously siloed, separately administered, systems. However, application authorization management has been missing, and its appearance will alter IAM market dynamics, creating a shift in the balance of power that threatens to bifurcate the market -- one for identity and authentication management and another for authorization management as application infrastructure. Having a strong IAM infrastructure is critical for complying with the myriad of privacy regulations and policies -- both with consumers and partners -- and must be translated into identity management strategies. However, some organizations are realizing that the activities needed to meet internal and external compliance requirements must be raised to a higher level.
