It's a common pattern - competition requires businesses to introduce new products and services more rapidly than ever before, but their IT shops are paralyzed by old, inflexible, and increasingly expensive core systems. IT teams face a crossroad. In desperation, many roll the dice and attempt to "rip and replace" their legacy systems, but in 2004, National City committed to a different approach. In this session, we'll describe the SOA-based "renewal" approach we used to transform our disjointed core systems into a "relationship aware" and "integrated" set of business capabilities. We'll describe how we established a multi-year SOA-enabled renewal program, and provide details on how we evolved our technology, organization, and governance capabilities along the way. We will also provide real world examples of our progress, and some missteps, as we evolved from basic services development, into the creation of Common Technology Assets, and finally landing on our unique Business Capability Architecture.
