Web services (Ws-*) and REST/POX-based Web-oriented architecture (WOA) have differences that significantly affect design choices. Web service (Ws-*) standards are progressing slowly, and adoption is less-dramatic and widespread than initially anticipated. WOA is rapidly emerging but lacks maturity and robustness for enterprise application-to-application integration. Organizations should not hastily commit to either approach but rather understand the differences and how those differences apply to specific SOA-system requirements. |
Key Issues:
|
- What are the important architectural differences between WS-* and WOA?
- When does it make sense to use Web services or WOA standards?
- When is it appropriate to use the WOA sub-style or the Ws-* sub-style?
