There are numerous ways in which a service and support organization can measure its success. But are you spending too much time looking at metrics that don't align to specific business goals? Proper alignment of metrics to goals, along with a balanced approach to those metrics, can ensure that you are measuring the value of IT on a multidimensional scale rather than producing flat reports about productivity. Appropriate metrics, along with appropriate targeted dashboards, shows the value of IT and how it relates to the business.
•How can I&O focus on using the right metrics?
•How can I&O show the value of services provided through metrics?
•How can the I&O use dashboards to properly display value based metrics?

The idea of a network operations center (NOC) is antiquated. The practice of a room with I&O team members staring at monitors waiting for alerts to occur does not add value to the business in today’s faster-paced, budget-minded organization. I&O teams must focus squarely on showing value to the business, and that starts with a look at how the team members and different functions within the I&O contribute to keeping the business up and running. Organizations today are focused on the evolution of the NOC toward the more modern, full operations center (OC), which provides world-class operations support and is staffed with higher-skilled team members capable of making a greater impact on the business.
• Why is it time to deconstruct the NOC?
• What is an operations center?
• How should the operations center be designed, staffed and operated?

IT service desk and end-user support teams are fading in relevance; few contribute as business partners. The Nexus of Forces makes traditional approaches obsolete. Formation of business productivity teams (BPTs) will alter the IT-business relationship. BPTs increase collaboration and innovation. Integrating BPT data into development, service management and other processes will accelerate delivery of new capabilities. Compared to IT service desks, BPTs have a singular focus on business productivity as a trigger to fundamentally change the IT-business relationship. Instead of providing reactive service support, BPTs transform the service model to proactively promote high levels of productivity by enabling high levels of user self sufficiency and shift the primary objective of a help desk staff focused on closing tickets into a team of technical advisors capable of working with end users.
• What are BPTs and how will they drive innovation and revolutionize the business model for IT?
• How will BPTs fit into traditional IT service support and deliver schemes?
• What tools are required to support BPTs and how mature are these solutions?

There is an increased understanding of the applications themselves, which comes from traditional network monitoring tools. When applied properly, they can provide an initial glimpse into the performance, usage and availability of most applications. The maturity of the organization in the ITScore model often dictates the level of tools they are ready to implement, and what the success rate will be (upcoming research). With new approaches such as deeper flow monitoring, analytics network performance monitoring is progressing to a more proactive control of delivery and optimization.
• What business drivers are causing the need for increased investment in network and application performance monitoring tools?
• Which vendors and technologies will enable IT operations to monitor application and network performance?
• What management processes, best practices and strategies will IT operations groups use to better understand application and network usage, responsiveness, and service quality?
