Andrew ButlerServer virtualisation is rapidly becoming the default – most large enterprises have started deployments, and penetration doubles each year. This extends for non-x86 virtualised platforms as we see increasing crossover between the two virtual environments. But while virtualisation affects many aspects of the project portfolio, it is not a one size fits all approach. We examine the drivers, caveats, vendors and viable workloads that organisations should consider as they strive to stay in control of the virtualisation frenzy.
Key Issues:
  • How will the server virtualisation market evolve through 2012, and how should users select technologies?
  • What workloads should (and should not) be virtualised and why?
  • What are the best ways to navigate the server virtualisation trend effectively?
